We have been selected as the Low Carbon Hero again at the 7th Istanbul Carbon E-Summit organized by the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D).
At the summit, which was held online for the first time this year, under the title of Green Recovery for a Climate Resistant Turkey, the Role of Waste and Energy Management, in cooperation with the T.R. Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Sustainable Production and Consumption Association (SÜT-D); in addition to the representatives of institutions, many representatives from academia, non-governmental organizations and the public sector has taken part.
In the organization held on September 28, many different topics have been addressed and discussed, especially sustainability, climate change and combating climate change, carbon, waste and energy management.
At the Summit, companies that act by focusing on the green economy and supporting carbon reduction with technical projects, in accordance with the objectives of creating carbon management awareness and gaining a sustainable living culture have been awarded.
Our company, which has received the Low Carbon Hero Award with its purple blade applications in Yalova and Uşak wind power plants and the energy production method in the LFG power plant in the previous years, has been awarded for the third time this year with the emission value prevented by Akıncı Hydroelectric Power Plant.
Our General Manager Ömer Fatih Keha, who has taken floor as a speaker at the Carbon Management and Energy panel in the Summit, has drawn attention to the fact that we produce energy for a more balanced and sustainable world with an innovative approach that focuses on people and the environment. Keha has stated, “We are managing a huge operation with the responsibility of being the largest company that produces energy only from renewable sources in Turkey. Since 2011, we have been working with determination to provide carbon neutral electricity to our customers who aim to increase investment in renewable resources, reduce or neutralize their emissions; and we continue to provide “Energy for Life” with works that will provide added value for our country, for our environment and for our stakeholders.”
Speaking about this success, our General Manager has said, “We are a part of the solution to the environmental issues encountered for the sustainable future of our world, including global warming and climate problems, with the renewable sourced electrical energy we produce as part of our work. We are among the few companies from Turkey that respond to the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) Climate Change Program and Water Security Program, and we have prevented 5.9 million tons of carbon emissions in the last 5 years. In 2020, we have realized a 21% decrease in our emission density compared to 2019. We have invested 2.1 million TL in 2021 on projects that shall reduce our carbon footprint. We aim to reduce our density per production by 30% in 2025 and by 65% in 2035, and we are taking firm steps towards becoming carbon-neutral in 2050. We are proud of deserving the third Low Carbon Hero Award this year with our Akıncı Hydroelectric Power Plant, which will always be a breather for the future with its preventive nature of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission as well as its energy production.”
Akıncı Hydroelectric Power Plant, operating in the province of Tokat, which has brought us the award this year; with the electricity it produces, by preventing more than 230 thousand tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually, contributes to the nature equivalent to the clean air provided by 436,000 trees.
